Dyslexia does not just impact the ability to read and write. Every individual with dyslexia will have their own areas of strengths and weaknesses, protective factors and developed resilience.

'Dyscalculia is a specific and persistent difficulty in understanding numbers which can lead to a diverse range of difficulties with mathematics. It will be unexpected in relation to age, level of education and experience and occurs across all ages and abilities.
Mathematics difficulties are best thought of as a continuum, not a distinct category, and they have many causal factors. Dyscalculia falls at one end of the spectrum and will be distinguishable from other maths issues due to the severity of difficulties with number sense, including subitising, symbolic and non-symbolic magnitude comparison, and ordering. It can occur singly but often co-occurs with other specific learning difficulties, mathematics anxiety and medical conditions.'

I am happy to arrange a Zoom call to discuss your concerns about your child and discuss options. It can be very isolating when you suspect you or your child might have a specific learning difference and know the correct path to choose. I have been in your position, which is one of the main reasons I now assess and tutor. You don't have to start this journey alone.
Assessments vary but, on average, take between three to four hours. If needed, I might follow up the original assessment on another day with additional tests, either virtually or in person, to explore any area that requires further investigation. There is no additional charge for the extra day.
However, if a full mathematics assessment is required in addition to one investigating literacy, this would involve an extra day of testing and extra costs.
You or your child will be required to complete a questionnaire, which must be returned at least two weeks before the assessment date. This includes a visual difficulties screener. If for a school-age individual, the school will also be asked to complete an information-gathering form. The assessee must have had an eye test within the last two years and bring prescription glasses to the assessment if required for reading. If a coloured overlay is used as their 'normal way of working', this should also be brought to the assessment.
Assessments cannot be guaranteed to be rescheduled to a later date, especially if cancelled at short notice. If I have to cancel due to illness or any other emergency, I will attempt to give clients a minimum of 24 hours notice if possible and reschedule the assessment within a reasonable timeframe.
An invoice with banking details will be sent once a provisional date is agreed upon. This date will only be held for 48 hours, and a deposit is required to confirm the assessment. The balance should be paid one week before the assessment day, as the invoice stipulates. Payments should be made by bank transfer, and please include your or your child's name as a reference. The completed reports will be emailed to the person who commissioned the report within three weeks of the assessment as a password-protected PDF document.
I am happy to schedule a Zoom call to review the report and any questions you might have after a good read-through.
According to data protection law, I can only send the report to the person who has commissioned the assessment. The assessment will not be shared with a third party, i.e. the school, without written permission from the person who has requested the assessment. Therefore, if you would like me to send the report directly to a school, you can send me a scanned, signed document stating your wishes.

i) The referral appears to be outside of their area of expertise.
ii) The client fails to cooperate with the requirements of the assessment procedure in such a way that may compromise the validity of the assessment.
iii) The client fails to comply with the abovementioned terms and conditions.
